Penn’s Peak would like to welcome back to the stage, The Temptations!!
Known for their great lead singers and their signature walk which became a staple of American style with its flair, flash and class, The Temptations are still making the great music they began some 40 years ago in Detroit. They are an essential staple of the Motown music scene, which was invented by Berry Gordy. It was the early 1960’s when they got their start, but it was Smokey Robinson’s 1964 hit “The Way You Do The Things You Do,” that projected them into stardom. The hits just started coming and The Temps were soon revered as cultural heroes. Their classic lineup was Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin.
Throughout the years, many singers came and went, but The Temps remained true to their tradition and continued to pump out the hits. No matter what musical genre was occurring, they stuck to their guns. “Great singing will always prevail,” says Otis. They received an Emmy for an NBC mini-series that chronicled the group’s history, 3 Grammy awards, 4 Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles and 14 Billboard R&B #1 singles. They are still working on new hits and releasing new CD’s quite frequently. Their current line-up consists of Otis Williams, Terry Weeks, G.C. Cameron, Ron Tyson and Joe Herndon. Three of these men, Ron, Terry and G.C., are the lead singers for the band. Ron has the best high tenor in the business, Terry is smooth and expresses a full range of feelings and G.C. was the front man for The Spinners and brings an artistry of creativity to The Temptations.
Come out to Penn’s Peak for a night of Motown memories with The Temptations!!
